Trump dissatisfied with prolonged conflict with Iran, US increases military forces as talks fail

President Donald Trump is showing growing frustration over the clash with Iran, which has lasted five months without a clear way out, even though he himself predicted the confrontation would end within a few weeks.

The Wall Street Journal reports that in a tense meeting in the Oval Office, Trump used harsh language toward Iranian leaders, openly cursing them and showing irritation over the ongoing skirmishes.

At the same time, Washington is deploying additional troops to the Middle East region, giving the president more options for further military escalation. After another meeting with his cabinet and advisers, Trump said that “the Iranian issue is fading day by day,” adding that the US is in contact with Tehran.

The diplomatic route, however, appears to be facing difficulties. Iraqi Prime Minister Ali Al Zaidi, who had just visited the White House, attempted to mediate a ceasefire during his trip to Iran, but Tehran rejected the offer, stressing that the issue is not about mediators but about the American stance itself.

On the international front, the US administration is also seeking to engage European powers to secure the passage of ships through the Strait of Hormuz, a crucial corridor for global oil transport.

Within the White House, there are concerns about the electoral consequences of this clash. Some of Trump’s associates fear that Republicans risk losses in the midterm elections due to rising prices, declining popular support, and casualties among American forces.

The president himself has spent the last few months between declarations of ceasefires and new threats of devastating attacks, but after brief calm, clashes resumed. Most recently, he has reinstated an ultimatum to strike Iran’s energy facilities and strategic infrastructure.

A senior American official states that Trump is convinced that the Tehran regime only reacts to force, so bombings continue. However, the president is hesitant to authorize a ground intervention that would significantly increase the risk to American soldiers and could irritate his MAGA movement base.

Beyond political pressures, the Pentagon is worried about the depletion of ammunition reserves from the airstrikes. Replenishing these stocks requires significant funds and a long time, raising concerns about the US’s ability to confront another conflict.

In this climate, the president and his inner circle have strengthened security measures due to Iranian threats. Key advisers have been advised not to use services like Uber, while during a visit to Turkey for a NATO summit, Israel raised the alarm about a possible Iranian assassination plot against Trump.

With diplomacy failing and no other way out, some Republican voices believe the president is reverting to “Plan A”: exercising military power against Iran.
