Donald Trump has expressed cautious optimism about contacts expected to take place in Doha, Qatar, regarding Iran’s nuclear program, while Tehran has said that no negotiating meeting with the United States is planned in the coming days.
The US president first announced this through a post on Truth Social and later in remarks to reporters at the White House, where he said a meeting would take place in Doha on Tuesday.

“There will be a meeting about this tomorrow in Doha. They will go to Qatar, I think they have already left or are preparing to leave. We’ll see how it goes,” Trump said.
He described the meeting as “perhaps important, perhaps not,” offering no certainty about the outcome the contacts might produce.
Trump also stressed that the United States has made major progress in efforts to stop Iran from developing nuclear weapons.
“I would say it has been won almost militarily,” the US president said, adding that Washington’s main goal remains ensuring that Iran never has nuclear weapons.
According to him, Tehran has already accepted not moving toward the development of a nuclear military capability.
At the same time, CNN, citing two US officials, reported that US special envoy Steve Witkoff has departed for Doha for the planned contacts. There is still no confirmation whether he is traveling together with Jared Kushner, President Trump’s son-in-law.
A senior US official told CNN that technical talks on implementing the memorandum of understanding between the parties are continuing normally, despite recent tensions in the region.
However, the Iranian side has flatly rejected the possibility that any negotiating meeting with the United States has been scheduled.
According to Iranian authorities, no negotiations at any level are planned in the coming days, while the focus remains on implementing the existing memorandum of understanding rather than opening talks on a new agreement.
These differing messages from Washington and Tehran have added to the uncertainty over the nature and substance of the contacts expected to take place in Qatar, while it remains unclear whether they could serve as a step toward a new agreement on Iran’s nuclear program.
