New US strikes against Iran, Trump tells Tehran to “behave”

The United States has carried out a new series of military strikes against Iran. US President Donald Trump sent a stern message to Tehran, saying Iranian authorities had “better behave.”

The US military said the attacks targeted Iranian military capabilities that, according to it, were being used to threaten commercial vessels sailing through the Strait of Hormuz. The area is considered one of the world’s most important shipping routes for oil transport.

Meanwhile, Iranian state media reported that air defenses had been activated in Tehran. Iranian authorities also said they had struck US military targets in the region, including bases in Bahrain and Kuwait.

The renewed tensions have emerged just five days after the two sides had reached a preliminary agreement to end the conflict.

Iranian Parliament Speaker Mohammad Bagher Ghalibaf told state media that Tehran has “no reason” to abide by the agreement if it does not provide benefits for the country.

According to him, protecting Iran’s national security requires Iran to maintain its control and measures in the Strait of Hormuz. He added that negotiations, like war, are part of Tehran’s strategy of resistance in a conflict he described as “existential” with the United States.

A day earlier, Trump had warned that he would attack bridges and power plants in Iran if Tehran did not return to the negotiating table next week.

Asked by reporters whether he would set a deadline before taking further military action, the US president said:

“I don’t like setting deadlines, but they know the situation very well… They had better behave.”

Later, at a defense summit, Trump said Iran was “not happy at all” with the current situation.

“They want to reach an agreement as quickly as possible. They do not like what we are doing. We will see whether we negotiate with them or see this through to the end,” he said.

Despite the clashes, Trump welcomed the release of a US citizen who had been detained in Iran since December 2024. He described it as a “goodwill gesture” by Tehran.

According to the US president, Dena Karari is now outside Iran and in good health. Her lawyer, Jared Genser, also confirmed that she is on her way to the United States.

Meanwhile, the situation remains extremely tense. The international community is following developments with concern due to the possibility of a further escalation of the conflict in the Middle East.
