Tragic incident in Greece/ Albanian 16-year-old dies after hitting his head during a football match (NAME)

A tragic incident has shaken football in Kavala, Greece, after a 16-year-old footballer of Albanian origin died following a serious head injury during a match on the island of Thassos.

Asllan Gjana, a member of Byronas Kavala, was playing against Aiandas Panagias in a second-division match organized by the Kavala Football Association when he suffered a severe impact just two minutes into the game.

During a challenge for the ball, the 16-year-old went off the pitch and hit the back of his head against the stadium’s perimeter fence. He lost consciousness after the collision.

The match was immediately suspended, and the footballer received first aid from the match doctor. Emergency medical services were also called to the scene, and because of his serious condition, he was transported to hospital immediately.

The 16-year-old was taken to Kavala Hospital, where he was admitted to the intensive care unit. Despite the doctors’ efforts, he did not survive. The news has caused immense grief among his family, teammates and the sporting community in Kavala.

Byronas Kavala issued a moving message following the death of its footballer.

“With unbearable pain and indescribable sadness, the athletic family of Byron Kavala bids farewell to one of its children,” the club said in its statement.

“Byron Kavala is mourning; it has lost one of its children. Safe travels, our son. You will live forever in our hearts,” the message continued.
