Tragic accident in Greece/ Albanian man loses his wife and son who were on their way to work: I lost everything…

A serious road accident that occurred this morning shook the community of Paleokomi in Serres. A 43-year-old Albanian woman and her 21-year-old son lost their lives while they were on their way to work.

Within moments, the husband and father of the victims was left without his wife and son.

Speaking through tears to Greek public broadcaster ERT, he said: “I lost both my wife and my child. They were on their way to work; I don’t know what happened. I lost everything.” His statement touched Greek public opinion, while the family is experiencing an unimaginable tragedy.

The incident occurred at around 7:30 a.m. on the Amfipolis–Drama provincial road, near Paleokomi. According to Greek authorities, the vehicle was being driven by the 21-year-old, while his 43-year-old mother was traveling in the passenger seat. For reasons still under investigation, the car entered the opposite lane and collided head-on with a truck. The impact was extremely powerful, and the mother and son died at the scene.

The 56-year-old truck driver, who suffered minor injuries, described the moments of the accident to Mega television: “I was traveling normally in my lane at around 75–80 kilometers per hour. Suddenly, I saw a car coming straight toward me. The driver had lost control and crossed into my lane. I tried to avoid it by moving to the left, but I had no time.”

Recordings from a camera installed in the truck are expected to be central to the investigation. Greek media report that, when the collision occurred, the driver was broadcasting live on Facebook through the vehicle’s camera, which recorded the entire incident. The footage shows the truck traveling normally on the Amfipolis–Drama road, while the oncoming car crosses the dividing line and enters his lane, making the collision unavoidable.

Experts are expected to examine the video, which is considered important evidence for fully determining the circumstances of the accident.

The two victims were Albanian citizens who had lived in the Paleokomi area for years, where they worked at a local business. They were known in the community as hardworking and respected people. The tragedy has caused deep grief among residents, while dozens of condolence messages have been posted on social media.

After the accident, the truck driver was taken to Drama Hospital, where he received first aid. He is out of danger. Greek authorities’ investigation continues to determine why the vehicle driven by the 21-year-old crossed into the opposite lane, causing the accident that claimed his life and that of his mother.
