The regime is undergoing a shameful dissolution”/ Berisha in Elbasan: Pensioners cannot afford medicines, while homes are unaffordable for young people

During the Democratic Party’s “Renewal Forum” in Elbasan, the leader of the political force, Sali Berisha, criticized the country’s economic and social situation. He accused the government of theft, cooperation with organized crime, and driving citizens out of Albania.

Berisha said Albania was facing an important historical stage, while the regime in power, according to him, was experiencing a “shameful dissolution.”

“We are at one of the most extraordinary moments in our national history. We are witnessing the shameful dissolution of a regime that governed this country based on the theft of citizens, organized crime, and driving them out of the country,” Berisha declared.

He devoted part of his speech to the economic conditions of pensioners, claiming that a large number of them cannot cover even their most essential expenses.

“Today, pensioners cannot afford to buy their medicines. More than 600,000 pensioners receive partial pensions—pensions with which they cannot even buy two weeks’ worth of food without help from family members,” the DP leader said.

He also linked the decline in the birth rate to the high costs of raising children and housing prices, which, according to him, have become unaffordable.

“Raising a baby during the first year requires 66% of a salary, which is why we are seeing a decline in the birth rate. Rents have reached the level of the average salary. Apartments have become forbidden fruit for citizens,” he declared.

According to Berisha, rising living costs are hitting pensioners and young people the hardest, also contributing to the depopulation of the country.
