The final words of a 46-year-old Italian woman after being kidnapped and abused by her ex-partner, before she was thrown from a bridge: “What are you doing?

A desperate call to the 112 emergency number has become the central piece of evidence in the investigation into the tragic killing of 46-year-old Lorena Itzeri in Florence. She lost her life at the hands of her ex-partner, 36-year-old Federico Vela. The call, which lasted around 20 minutes, was made shortly after 2 p.m., while the woman was locked in the trunk of the perpetrator’s car, documenting the horrifying moments that preceded the crime.

During the call with police, Lorena said that her former boyfriend had physically attacked her in a garage and then forced her into the car, where he restrained her. She tried to provide officers with as much information as possible to help them quickly identify the attacker.

“It’s my ex, his name is Federico, he’s 36 years old. I’ve been in the car for about ten minutes,” her voice can be heard saying in the recording. Although she was in an extremely distressed state, the 46-year-old maintained remarkable composure. She told authorities that she did not know their exact destination, but suspected they were heading to his home in the Galluzzo area of Florence.

The call signal was unstable because they were traveling on the A1 motorway. About eight minutes after it began, officers realized how critical the situation was. Lorena’s mobile phone was picking up every sound from inside the trunk. When the vehicle stopped and the sound of the trunk opening was heard, the police remained completely silent so as not to reveal their presence on the line.

The audio then captured the words Lorena addressed to her former partner: “What are you doing? I love you, don’t worry, we’ll see each other again.” According to investigators, these were her final attempts to calm Vela and dissuade him from carrying out his murderous intention.

The investigation has shown that the 36-year-old had never accepted the separation and, in recent weeks, had subjected her to constant pressure through messages. Just a few minutes after the call ended, he drove the car to a bridge over the A1 motorway in Barberino del Mugello and pushed the woman from the height.

About 40 minutes after the incident, and following an attempt to negotiate with law enforcement, Federico Vela ended his own life by jumping from the same spot. The victim’s final call remains one of the key pieces of the investigative file, fully recording the dramatic final minutes before the tragic end.
