The Constitutive Deadline Ends Today, Ramabaja Explains Why the LDK Is Seeking the Presidency and Harshly Accuses the Opposition

The constitutive session of the Assembly, which had been scheduled for August 6, was left pending after Acting Prime Minister Albin Kurti called for additional negotiations with the parties regarding the election of the president.

Kurti himself elaborated on the process of forming the institutions, meetings with political forces, and the need for cooperation to ensure institutional stability and democratic continuity during his speech, reports “Bota sot.”

He stressed that talks with the political entities began immediately after the results were certified, thanking PDK’s Bedri Hamza and LDK’s Lumir Abdixhiku for taking part. However, according to him, internal developments within the Democratic League suspended the talks, which resumed only in the past week.

Kurti emphasized his desire to continue discussions with the PDK and AAK as well, noting that the latter’s refusal is evident. He recalled that the June 7 elections were forced after the failure to elect a president in April, and that a broad agreement is now needed on a unifying figure, in line with the constitutional spirit to which the lawmakers swore allegiance.

The acting prime minister warned that the constitution of the Assembly must not once again turn into a path toward its dissolution and snap elections, which he described as groundless and harmful to citizens and the economy.

Meanwhile, the Democratic League of Kosovo has agreed to continue discussions today, but the Democratic Party of Kosovo and the Alliance for the Future of Kosovo are standing by their position of remaining in opposition.

In a comment for “Bota sot,” professor and doctor Sadri Ramabaja analyzed the latest situation. According to him, the Democratic League of Kosovo is seeking the presidency with the aim of transforming it, in times of crisis, into a second center of state legitimacy. Ramabaja considers this a dangerous approach that could plunge the country into a new cycle of institutional destabilization.

He argues that the constitutional spirit requires a president who emerges from broad political and social consensus. According to him, the LDK has a historic opportunity to overcome the deadlock by proposing two or three figures with integrity and a professional profile, either from academic or diplomatic circles.

If this does not happen, Ramabaja warns that going to the polls for a fourth time will become almost unavoidable, with consequences that could be particularly costly for the LDK itself. He concludes this thought by invoking the popular saying: “Take your pick.”

Asked about the positions of the PDK and AAK, which are refusing talks with Kurti, Ramabaja responded harshly. He described the opposition as vulgar and stressed that it is trying to impose its political will on citizens, presenting this as the only path to saving liberal democracy. According to him, this political vulgarity is manifested especially through the blocking of institutions and the push for new elections.

Ramabaja adds that the opposition has manipulated the Constitution and had the audacity to openly acknowledge this behavior, referring to a phrase by the Spanish philosopher José Ortega y Gasset. He stresses that this vulgarity as a political action directly clashes with the spirit of the Constitution. In the end, he observes that opposition spokespeople justify this approach as an effort to spare citizens from “political fatigue,” claiming a readiness to share power that does not exist in reality.
