Territorial Reform Sets Municipalities in Motion at the Height of the Summer Season to Meet Requirements

As the summer season and holiday period reach their peak, municipalities have been forced to begin work within a very limited timeframe to meet the requirements of the Territorial Reform.

The draft law presented by the Socialist Party requires mayors, municipal councils and citizens to submit their reasoned positions on the process.

Because of the deadlines set by law, municipal councils have drawn up calendars for consultations with citizens, although protests against this decision have taken place in each municipality slated for merger, during which residents expressed their positions.

Hearings with citizens had previously also been organized by the Territorial Reform Commission.

Residents are now being invited to consultations once again, while the administration and municipal council are expected to familiarize them with a division that, publicly or otherwise, is opposed by the authorities themselves as well.

The consultations also include municipalities that will be expanded. They too must present arguments explaining the reasons for their position in favor of or against the process.
