On Thursday, Democratic Party MP Jorida Tabaku responded after the majority rejected the opposition’s request to establish an inquiry committee into the state-owned company KAYO.

Tabaku said that oversight institutions are unable to fully scrutinize the company’s financial activities.
She also raised questions about how the shareholders were selected, particularly the involvement of businessman Ron Yeffet in the company’s operations.
“The Supreme State Audit does not audit it, internal auditors do not audit it, and we cannot see the payments in the Treasury. We see only one transfer from the government to KAYO, which amounts to €34 million to date. We do not know how each of the other shareholders was selected or what procedures were followed. How did the Albanian government come up with this Ron Yeffeti and decide to bring him in and select him? Were there other applications? Is national security being compromised? These questions were part of what we had requested be included in the remit of the inquiry committee. The SP refuses and says that you are requesting an inquiry committee into an issue that is also subject to parallel action by the justice institutions. Meanwhile, the justice institutions have not launched an investigation but have received an audio recording that was made public. We find ourselves in such a logically absurd situation in which Parliament is not allowed to perform its constitutional duty of parliamentary oversight,” Tabaku said.
Jorida Tabaku went on to say that the next step would be to file the case with the Constitutional Court: “We are creating an extraordinary impasse. The Constitution leaves no room for interpretation. The inquiry committee must be established; it is a right of the minority, and the majority must respect it as a constitutional right. Since the 2021 inquiry committee into the incinerators, all committees have been rejected, and the Constitutional Court has ruled in our favor. Therefore, the next step will be the Constitutional Court.”
The Democratic Party MP said they would also report the matter to all international institutions.
