Skopje’s Mayors Coordinate Actions for Damage Assessment After the Storm

Orce Gjorgjievski, the Mayor of the City of Skopje, announced that during the day he held a working meeting with the mayors of the capital’s municipalities and the Crisis Headquarters. The focus of the discussions was the assessment of damages caused by the powerful storm that swept through the city a day earlier.

Gjorgjievski emphasized that special commissions will be set up in each municipality of Skopje, where affected residents can report the damages suffered from the severe weather. Subsequently, in cooperation with the central city administration, a detailed assessment of these damages will be carried out. Depending on the legal framework and available resources, the path will be opened for assistance to citizens in repairing their homes.

Another important point of the agreement with the municipal mayors, according to him, is the order for reinforced inspections by the construction inspectorate, the housing inspectorate, and other relevant services. These teams will rigorously inspect all buildings whose roof structures have been damaged by wind and rain.

“We will verify every building with a damaged roof to uncover the causes of the collapse, bearing in mind that the responsibility for their maintenance falls on the residents’ councils,” Gjorgjievski stated.

He assured that all forces on the ground have been mobilized to deal with the consequences of the disaster and reminded that the City of Skopje has a special solidarity fund, which contains designated resources for compensating citizens in such emergency circumstances.

Finally, Gjorgjievski expressed gratitude to the employees of the public enterprises and the Fire Brigade, who reacted quickly after the event. He guaranteed that the cleanup operation will continue without interruption until the complete elimination of the consequences and the restoration of safety for all citizens.
