Russian Drone and Missile Strikes on Kyiv Leave 12 Dead and 17 Injured

The death toll from Russian missile and drone strikes overnight in Kyiv has risen to 12, with 17 people injured, including two children.

Eight people were killed in the capital, six of them employees of the state railway company Ukrzaliznytsia. They were inside a depot that was hit during the attack. Fires broke out in three districts of Kyiv.

Four other victims were reported in the city of Boryspil, where a residential building was hit.

The Russian military said the operation, which it described as a “massive strike using high-precision weapons,” targeted Ukraine’s “military-industrial and fuel-energy” infrastructure.

Meanwhile, Aleksandr Shuvaev, the acting governor of Russia’s Belgorod region, announced that one person had been killed during Ukrainian attacks in the western Russian region.

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky said in the morning that around 350 emergency service workers had worked throughout the night in Kyiv and the surrounding region following the attacks.

In a post on social media, Zelensky said Russia had used a “significant number of jet-powered drones and ballistic missiles.”

According to the Ukrainian president, attacks were also carried out in eight other regions of the country. He added that an Indian national was among the victims.

The incident occurred just days after 38 people were killed on Friday at an arms depot in the Kyiv region. The strike caused shells, mines and drones to explode.

On Monday, Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi called on Russian President Vladimir Putin to end the war, saying that every day of the conflict sets humanity back.

India relies heavily on low-priced oil supplied by Moscow.
