Kyiv Hit by Russian Overnight Strikes, 12 Killed and 30 Injured

A series of massive Russian missile strikes hit Kyiv and the surrounding areas overnight, killing at least 12 people and injuring 30, according to Ukrainian authorities.

Residents of Kyiv were forced to take shelter in underground facilities, including parking garages, while air raid alerts continued in some parts of Ukraine.

Ukrainian authorities had warned residents earlier in the night to seek shelter in safe places, also announcing the possibility of air defense operations.

The State Emergency Service of Ukraine said the missiles hit residential buildings and warehouses. Rescue teams continue to search the rubble and look for other people who may be trapped.

During the search-and-rescue operations, emergency teams managed to pull one person alive from the rubble of a collapsed building.

Kyiv Mayor Vitali Klitschko said the strikes also damaged a children’s hospital. The building’s windows were shattered, while vehicles nearby caught fire.

Another facility hit was an industrial center in the Solomyanskyi district, in the southwestern part of Kyiv.

In Brovary district, part of the wider Kyiv region, one man was killed and another was injured. The news was confirmed by regional governor Tymur Tkachenko.

As the Russian strikes continued, the Polish military announced that it would conduct “preventive military aviation operations” in response to Russian attacks on Ukraine.

Kyiv has faced attacks almost every night in recent weeks, some of which have left dozens of people dead and seriously injured.
