At Least 15 Killed in Russian Strikes on Ukraine; Kyiv Retaliates by Destroying a Key Military Base in Russia

At least 15 people have been killed and many others injured as a result of the latest wave of Russian attacks on Ukrainian territory. The deadliest strike was recorded near Kyiv, where ballistic missiles targeted a drone technology fair, causing 10 fatalities and around 100 wounded.

President Volodymyr Zelensky stated that the attack occurred during daylight hours and that prominent figures from the defense industry were participating. Ukrainian prosecutors have immediately launched an investigation to clarify the conditions under which the event took place and the security measures that were in place.

Air Force spokesman Yuri Ihnat explained that the strike on the capital region was executed with three ballistic missiles, of which air defenses managed to neutralize only one.

After the incident, there were concerns about the fate of Defense Ministry adviser Serhiy Beskrestnov, known by the nickname “Flash,” and military technology expert Lyuba Shypovych. Both later reported that they were out of danger. Beskrestnov clarified that he had decided not to attend the event due to security concerns.

Meanwhile, five more lives were lost in the eastern city of Sloviansk, which was hit by Russian shelling.

On the other side, Ukraine has carried out counterstrikes inside Russian territory. An overnight operation in the city of Kirov, located more than 1,000 kilometers from the front line, left six dead and 26 wounded, according to local authorities.

Zelensky emphasized that the Ukrainian military had succeeded in striking one of the most vital military installations in Kirov, a facility that produces parts for aircraft and missile systems used in the offensive against Ukraine. Additionally, attacks on several warehouses of the Russian online retail company “Wildberries” were confirmed.

Kyiv has stated that these strikes on Russian logistics centers aim to disrupt supplies that could be used by the Russian military apparatus. The attacks on “Wildberries” facilities have also had consequences for a large number of small and medium-sized enterprises that operate through this platform.

In Romania, President Nicusor Dan announced that a Romanian Air Force F-16 fighter jet shot down a Russian drone that had breached national airspace. Earlier, authorities had activated alarm systems in several eastern and southeastern regions of the country.

These latest developments come amid an escalation of clashes, as both Russia and Ukraine continue to carry out missile and drone strikes deep inside each other’s territories.
