Retrial Begins in Triple Murder Case in Gllogjan as Prosecution Denies Concealing Evidence

The retrial in the case of the triple murder in Gllogjan began today. The State Prosecution has responded to the reopening of the judicial review and claims regarding the handling of evidence.

Prosecutor Sahide Gashi said that the prosecuting institution respects the court’s decision and welcomes the examination of any evidence the court considers important for bringing the truth to light.

However, Gashi said that the Prosecution’s position should be clarified in response to claims that it had concealed evidence or failed to propose it.

“My position is categorical and completely clear: the Prosecution does not conceal evidence, least of all evidence it has obtained itself,” Gashi declared.

She said that the ballistic report on the shell casings found in the mountainous area had been included in the case file from the very first day and had been accessible to all parties.

According to the prosecutor, the Prosecution presents evidence supporting a well-founded suspicion and not necessarily every document contained in the case file.

Gashi explained that the shell casings found in the mountainous area were not proposed as evidence because they had no direct connection with the nature of the criminal offense.

The prosecutor also stated that the location where defendant Kreshnik Mehmetaj was seen firing a weapon is known as an area frequented by Deçan residents for shooting firearms.

“This is an open public shooting range where residents have been firing weapons for years. For this reason, it is entirely natural to find random shell casings that do not match the crime scene,” Gashi declared.
