Employees of the Republic Guard are calling for an urgent review of their salaries, raising concerns that they are not being financially compensated in line with the responsibilities and specific nature of their duties.
In a public statement, the Guard’s trade union called on the relevant authorities and the Ministry of Finance to draw up a concrete program for increasing salaries.

According to the union, the institution has not been properly valued since 2001, while the historic 15,000-lek difference with other security institutions has disappeared over the years.
The employees argue that constant readiness, pressure and responsibility for the security of senior state officials, both domestic and foreign, require differentiated financial compensation.
“Protecting the state with your life requires the state to value you with dignity as well,” the statement said.
The union is calling for concrete steps and warns that the issue of salary increases can no longer be neglected.
The statement by the Republic Guard’s trade union comes at a time when the government has approved financial compensation for thousands of State Police officers for their increased involvement in ensuring public order and security, following clashes with students during protests over the past two weeks.
