Rama Urges Socialist Party Leaders Ahead of Elections: Electoral Machine Needs Vital Transformation

During today’s meeting, Edi Rama delivered a direct message to Socialist leaders regarding the upcoming elections and how the Socialist Party should act in order to win them.

According to him, in the past, the “SP electoral machine” secured victories by encouraging citizens’ gratitude for the work that had been carried out. However, it must now undergo a transformation and adapt to what Rama described as the era of expectations.

Rama stated that the political leaders present, the heads of parliamentary committees, the parliamentary group, the government cabinet, mayors and the party’s entire leadership across the country must, starting today, act every day with a sense of priority.

He stressed that during the era of shortages, the Socialist electoral machine won thanks to mobilising gratitude for everything that had been done. In the era of expectations, however, he said a vital transformation is required, as gratitude is no longer a decisive factor and the confrontation with the new reality of expectations has only just begun.

The head of government said that the landscape taking shape today is entirely different because of all the factors he had mentioned. For this reason, he said the Socialists’ task is not to defend the machine from what is around or outside it, but to save it from itself.

In this spirit, Rama announced that he had drafted the document placed before the participants at the meeting, leaving it entirely open to remarks and notes from each of them.

He defined empathy as a commitment to interaction rather than a sign of weakness, describing it as a strength that no algorithm can produce. According to Rama, a citizen who opens their door to someone to share their troubles has given something even more valuable than a vote: trust, while also placing their dignity in that person’s hands.

Rama underlined that a person’s hardship should not be treated as currency in the political exchange rate. He called on the party to listen with solidarity, without asking who someone supports, whom they have supported, what they have done in the past, which political direction they prefer or how they will vote.

In conclusion, he warned that a door opened only to SP supporters ultimately ends up being closed to the entire Socialist Party. For this reason, the head of government called for a lack of response to be declared forbidden within the SP.
