Psychiatric assessment presented in trial over the murder of Ismet Ibishi

The trial of Hisni and Bujar Ibishi, accused of murdering their cousin Ismet Ibishi, continued at the Basic Court in Mitrovica. The incident occurred on February 12, 2025, at a café in “Adem Jashari” Square in Skenderaj.

During today’s hearing, the psychiatric assessment of defendant Hisni Ibishi was presented to the court.

Psychiatrist Shpend Haxhibeqiri said that, after reviewing the case documentation, video recording and examinations conducted, no psychiatric problems or mental or intellectual disabilities had been found in the defendant.

Haxhibeqiri explained that the establishment of his education, family and business, as well as the way he had functioned over the years, showed that Hisni Ibishi had not suffered from such disorders. According to him, neither the clinical nor hospital examination established any mental disturbance.

The expert added that even on the critical day, the defendant had been able to understand his actions and control his conduct, their consequences or omissions. He stressed that these abilities had not been impaired.

The court had earlier approved attorney Naim Rudari’s request for a psychiatric assessment to also be conducted on defendant Bujar Ibishi.

At the May 19, 2026 hearing, witness Safet Ismajli was questioned. He said that he had been at the establishment for about 10 to 15 minutes before Hisni Ibishi entered, and also presented his version of the circumstances surrounding the murder.

The prosecution alleges that on February 12, 2025, at a venue in “Adem Jashari” Square in Skenderaj, Hisni and Bujar Ibishi knowingly and intentionally deprived Ismet Ibishi of his life. According to the indictment, the victim was drinking coffee when the defendants entered the venue, drew their weapons and fired at him, inflicting fatal injuries.

The next hearing will be held on November 3, starting at 1:30 p.m.
