Prison officer in Durrës caught red-handed, suspected of passing drugs to a detainee

A Prison Police officer was caught in the act at IEVP Durrës, after he was suspected of attempting to hand narcotics to a detainee.

According to a statement from the General Directorate of Prisons, the incident was identified following a risk analysis of employees flagged as having a tendency to become involved in bringing prohibited items into the facility, as well as thanks to information obtained in cooperation with the Supervisory Agency in the System for the Execution of Criminal Decisions.

Official sources said the officer was immediately suspended from duty, while during a physical search another quantity of suspected narcotic substance was also found on him.

At the same time, during inspections carried out at IEVP Fier, authorities discovered and seized two mobile phones and a charger in the pre-trial detention premises. So far, the person who brought them into the institution has not been identified.

Both cases are being handled in cooperation with the Supervisory Agency in the System for the Execution of Criminal Decisions, while procedural and investigative actions are continuing to fully clarify them.
