Poliçan is continuing its protest against the administrative-territorial reform that envisages the dissolution of the Municipality of Poliçan. The issue has brought the Municipal Council together, and it has unanimously decided to resign, along with the successor candidates on the list, if the merger of Poliçan with Berat is approved.

The Municipal Council of Poliçan has also called on 15 other municipalities that, according to the council, risk being affected by the new administrative reform to join the protest, which is expected to continue in front of the Albanian Parliament.
“We are against a reform that is being rushed through within a few months, even though its consequences could last for decades. This reform risks diminishing the voice, attention and ability of this community to demand what it is entitled to,” a council member said.
According to representatives of the Municipal Council, the reform would result in the loss of jobs for many professionals and employees in the administration, services and other sectors.
At the same time, they said, such a decision would devalue property and negatively affect the city’s future.
According to the protesters, deputies were scheduled to meet with and listen to the residents of Poliçan today, but, they said, none of them appeared in the city, while the deputies held meetings in three other municipalities in the county.
“Our pledge is our vote, Prime Minister. We gave you our pledge, but you did not keep your pledge to us. We invite you to come and sit down with the people of Poliçan and listen to the citizens’ voice. As you said, Prime Minister, where are you today?” one protester said.
Residents and representatives of the Municipal Council have warned that their opposition will continue in the coming days, while the protest is expected to move in front of the Albanian Parliament, with a call for 15 other municipalities to join the initiative against the administrative-territorial reform.
