Pentagon reveals first combat use of naval drones against Iranian targets, the same technology Kyiv also uses

In an unprecedented operation, the U.S. Navy has destroyed a submarine and an Iranian forces’ repair center at the port of Bandar Abbas, testing autonomous maritime vehicles in a real combat scenario for the first time. This was announced by U.S. Central Command through an official statement.

The strike, executed on Sunday, relied on several Corsair-type drones, which operate on the water’s surface without the need for human piloting. Military officials stressed that the mission’s primary goal was to paralyze Tehran’s capacity to carry out further aggression against civilian transport ships.

The trio of attack naval drones neutralized the predetermined targets inside the Iranian naval base, while in the statement posted on X, CENTCOM specified that “last night’s operations have significantly undermined Iran’s potential to intensify attacks on commercial shipping.”

This historic action for the Pentagon introduces into the conflict arena a type of weaponry that has already shown efficiency in the hands of Ukrainian forces. They have successfully utilized this category of unmanned vehicles in their prolonged confrontation against Russian invading forces, bringing a new dimension to modern naval warfare.
