The Democratic Party of Kosovo and the Democratic League of Kosovo have refused to meet with Kosovo’s Acting President, Albulena Haxhiu, to discuss resolving the political deadlock. However, in their requests to nominate representatives to the Central Election Commission, both parties addressed her in her capacity as Acting President.

The Democratic League of Kosovo also submitted a request to Albulena Haxhiu, referring to her as Acting President of the Republic of Kosovo. The subject of the letter concerned the nomination of a member of the Central Election Commission.
“Your Excellency, Ms. Haxhiu, pursuant to Article 139.4 of the Constitution of the Republic of Kosovo and Article 61 of Law No. 08/L-228 on General Elections in the Republic of Kosovo, and based on the results of the June 7, 2026 elections for the Assembly of the Republic of Kosovo, certified pursuant to the Decision of the Central Election Commission dated July 8, 2026, the Democratic League of Kosovo hereby submits the name of its nominee for membership of the Central Election Commission,” the LDK’s request states.

LDK leader Lumir Abdixhiku announced today that he would not respond to Albulena Haxhiu’s invitation to attend a meeting with the leaders of the political parties.
Abdixhiku clarified that the LDK is willing to meet with party leaders but that, in the current situation, it could only hold a meeting with Albin Kurti, the leader of the Vetëvendosje Movement.
“We hold meetings with party leaders. And in this case, the only meeting we can hold is with Mr. Kurti, the leader of the Vetëvendosje Movement. In our view, Ms. Haxhiu is a member of the Assembly of Kosovo, one of the Assembly’s 120 members. Therefore, we can speak only with those who are responsible for this matter,” Abdixhiku said in remarks to local media.
