Patriot Missiles Headed for Production in Ukraine, Zelensky Reveals Details of Meeting with Trump in Washington

President Volodymyr Zelensky announced that talks with U.S. President Donald Trump included the possibility of licensing the production of Patriot system missiles within Ukrainian territory.

The Ukrainian head of state’s trip to the White House coincides with a delicate phase for Kyiv, as the country continues to be subjected to relentless Russian air strikes. For Zelensky, a key priority was to secure Washington’s support for licensed production of Patriot systems, a proposal that he said Trump had already agreed to at the time of the NATO summit.

After the discussions concluded, Zelensky added that beyond Patriot missiles, other proposals aimed at strengthening his country’s defensive capabilities were also examined.

“We discussed the licensing for the production of Patriot missiles, as well as other ideas that could prove useful. We also talked about the diplomatic path, because it is essential to reactivate dialogue. Our teams will coordinate their work for further communications,” he declared.

The president described the meeting as constructive and stressed that special emphasis was placed on the safety of the civilian population and the ways in which America can supply Kyiv with missile defense equipment.

On the other hand, the U.S. administration maintains a cautious stance regarding the immediate supply of new armaments, citing that its national stockpiles have been depleted. Media sources indicate that some of the equipment requested by Ukraine had already been deployed by American forces in the theater of operations in Iran.

Analysts believe that, although replenishing U.S. depots in the short term presents a challenge, authorizing domestic licensed production of armaments would multiply Ukraine’s defensive capabilities and, in the longer term, reduce pressure on the U.S. military industry. Moreover, the experience the Ukrainian army is gaining directly in the theater of war could serve to develop more effective and more cost-efficient equipment.
