New Territorial Reform/Signature Drive Begins in Cërrik as Residents Oppose Merger with Elbasan Municipality

The new territorial reform, proposed by the ruling majority, aims to dissolve several municipalities and merge them with others, but has met with opposition in several cities across the country.

Residents of Cërrik have also protested, demanding that Cërrik remain a municipality in its own right.

As part of this initiative, they have begun collecting signatures for a petition opposing the proposal, which calls for Cërrik to be merged with the Municipality of Elbasan.

The initiative was launched by organizers and local residents, who argue that a merger with Elbasan would move services and decision-making further away from the people of Cërrik.

The signature drive is expected to continue for several days in the city. Once completed, the document will be submitted not only to domestic institutions, but also to international institutions.
