“New Albania,” 26th day of the protest: speeches begin in front of the Prime Minister’s Office, citizens repeat 5 demands: We want a technical government

The 26th day of the civic protest has begun in the capital.

Protesters gathered in Skanderbeg Square before continuing their march along Dëshmorët e Kombit Boulevard and stopping in front of the Prime Minister’s Office, where they are also delivering speeches.

Some of the participants have proposed extending the protests into the morning hours as well, a proposal that has yet to be confirmed, while during their remarks they once again repeated the same 5 demands.

The demands:

1. The non-negotiable resignation of the Prime Minister and the government.

2. The creation of a transitional, non-partisan technical government with a 12-month mandate.

3. Constitutional changes, under which all Albanian citizens would be equal before the law, as well as its approval through a popular referendum, including among other things:

Amendment of the Electoral Code;

Amendment of the law on the financing of political parties and various organizations;

Limiting the exercise of the Prime Minister’s office to no more than two terms, full or partial, throughout an individual’s entire political life.

4. In parallel, we demand:

The cancellation of the changes made to the law on “Protected Areas”;

The cancellation of the changes made to the law on “Cultural Heritage”;

The repeal of the legislative package known as the “Mountains Package”;

The repeal of the status and legal framework for “Strategic Investments.”

5. The new social contract between citizens and the state will be drafted after consultation with intellectuals, technical experts, and non-partisan citizens proposed by the protest square.
