Day 39 of the protest / Citizens remain resolute: Rama must resign

The citizens’ revolt has today entered its 39th day. This afternoon as well, citizens will once again gather in front of the Prime Minister’s Office, aiming to continue the protest that for more than a month has demanded the departure of Edi Rama and the overthrow of the political model that, according to them, has kept the country hostage.

Initially launched as opposition to the project in Zvërnec, this movement has turned into a broad protest against the political class, placing at its center the demand for the departure of Prime Minister Edi Rama and the establishment of a new political system.

Today, too, the slogans that have accompanied the protest throughout these weeks are expected to return, including “Rama resign,” “Rama leave,” “Rama in prison, Berisha in prison,” “Your end has come,” “Revolution,” “New Albania,” and “The homeland is ours.”

The organizers have insisted that the gathering will continue peacefully.

At yesterday’s protest, participants reiterated the demands they consider non-negotiable: the resignation of the prime minister and the government, the establishment of a transitional technical government, a change to the political system, and the repeal of laws that, according to them, serve clientelist interests.

Also, from the podium, accusations were raised over the use of public funds for Kanye West’s concert, while a national protest was also announced for July 11, the day the concert is scheduled to take place in Tirana.

The organizers have made it clear that the mobilization will not stop, arguing that citizens’ participation after 38 days shows that discontent remains strong and that the protest has entered a new phase of resistance.

This afternoon as well, the boulevard in front of the Prime Minister’s Office is expected to fill once again with citizens, who have warned that they will continue the protests until their demands are met.
