NAI calls for the resignation of the chairwoman of the Kumanovo Municipal Council over procedural violations

Huzeir Mustafi, a councillor from the National Alliance for Integration (NAI), has publicly called for the removal from office of Ivana Gjorgjievska, chairwoman of the Kumanovo Municipal Council. According to him, violations of the Rules of Procedure have been repeated during her tenure, reports Tv Festa.

Mustafi’s reaction concerns the way the municipal body’s proceedings have been conducted, particularly the session that was adjourned 22 days ago.

He said the session was adjourned on the grounds that there was no quorum, while in reality this had resulted from a lack of agreement among the parties that are part of the governing coalition. Mustafi believes that the chairwoman should guarantee compliance with the Rules of Procedure and the proper implementation of procedures, rather than use them to conceal problems and political clashes within the local government.

The NAI councillor also stressed that the Municipal Council is an important local institution whose functioning must be based on accountability, transparency and strict compliance with legal rules.

Mustafi argued that if these principles cannot be ensured by the current chairwoman, Ivana Gjorgjievska’s resignation is the only responsible solution for restoring normality to the Council’s work, reports Tv Festa.
