Divjaka Opposes Merger with Lushnje, Municipal Council Holds Extraordinary Session

The meeting was opened by the chairwoman of the Municipal Council, Liri Biti, who presented the agenda. Twenty of the 31 municipal councilors took part in the meeting.

Right-wing councilors requested that the agenda also include an item concerning the correspondence between the Municipality of Divjaka and the commission drafting the administrative-territorial reform.

The request was approved with 20 votes in favor, none against and no abstentions.

Subsequently, the councilors unanimously decided that the commission responsible for conducting public hearings as part of the reform would consist of “7 members”: four municipal representatives and three Municipal Council councilors.

The public hearings will be held in Divjaka’s five administrative units: Divjaka, Tërbuf, Grabjan, Gradishtë and Remas. Their conclusions will then be submitted to Parliament.

During the meeting, the councilors also requested explanations from Mayor Josif Gorrea regarding the position he took at the meeting held in Kuç.

Regardless of their political affiliations, the councilors expressed their support for “maintaining Divjaka as a separate municipality,” opposing its inclusion under the administration of the Municipality of Lushnje.

With the approval of the commission’s structure, the Divjaka Municipal Council has paved the way for the public hearings, which are expected to take place over the next two months and serve as the community’s official position before Parliament.

The proposed administrative-territorial reform provides for the Municipality of Divjaka to merge with the Municipality of Lushnje.
