Murder of ex-partner’s parents in Roskovec and the perpetrator’s suicide, lawyer Greta Ambeli: Alarm bell for society, preventive policies are needed

Greta Ambeli, while invited on “News24,” described the serious event where Refit Buzi took the lives of his ex-partner’s parents and then, after drawn-out negotiations, ended his own life – as a moment that must awaken public conscience.

According to her, this tragedy cannot be considered merely an isolated crime, but a strong signal that calls for immediate reflection on the country’s social and criminal policies.

The lawyer pointed out that at the core of many serious conflicts lies the inability to accept the end of a relationship.

“The terrible event that shocked public opinion more than anything else is once again linked to a woman as the cause,” emphasized Ambeli, adding that Albanian society must teach the younger generations respect for women and that the end of a relationship should be dealt with through legal channels, such as divorce, and not through the exercise of violence.

Referring to preliminary information on the case, she raised the concern of psychological violence that the victim may have suffered, especially if there were elements of stalking.

At the same time, Ambeli stressed that many women face great challenges after obtaining protection orders, as economic difficulties often force them to continue living in the same apartment with the abusers, leaving them in a cycle of insecurity and danger.

Continuing her analysis, the lawyer called for a more comprehensive approach from institutions, arguing that the response should not be limited only to punishment after the fact.

According to her, the case should be seen as a call for the system not to focus solely on punishment, but to invest in education and preventive mechanisms that prevent the recurrence of such episodes.

Finally, Ambeli suggested that in addition to analyzing the individual responsibility of the perpetrator, researchers and policymakers must delve into their psychological profiling, the family relationships they have built, and the environment they grew up in.

She mentioned that in some cases, the role of parents can take the form of a source of conflict for the couple, adding to the complexity of situations that lead to such crimes.
