“MPs Don’t Represent Us” / 51 Days of Revolt for Rama’s Resignation, Citizens Protest Today in Front of Parliament

Citizens who have been protesting against the government for 50 days have announced another gathering, which will take place today in front of the Albanian Parliament building, at the same time as the plenary session. The session is announced to start at 12:00.

Organizers have called on citizens to join the protest, stating they aim to convey their message in front of the MPs as well. According to activists, the protest in front of Parliament will be a continuation of the civic resistance that has been taking place every evening in Tirana for seven weeks. They stressed that the gathering aims to express dissatisfaction with the institutions and the way Parliament functions.

“We will show Parliament that we do not feel represented and that citizens demand change,” said one of the activists during last night’s protest.

The protest is expected to take place while the plenary session is held in Parliament, where the agenda includes the National Council of European Integration report for 2025, the draft law on European cooperative societies, as well as the review of draft resolutions on the activity of justice institutions and independent bodies, including SPAK, the General Prosecutor’s Office, the High Judicial Council, the High Prosecutorial Council, and the State Supreme Audit.

Organizers have made it known that the protests will continue in the coming days, stressing that they will continue mobilizing until their demands are met.

Meanwhile, a large protest has been warned for July 23, when the last plenary session before the summer recess will be held. Activists have repeatedly called during last night’s protest for massive participation in front of Parliament on July 23, and have let it be known that they are making special preparations for that day.
