Today’s 52nd protest: Citizens demand Rama’s resignation; on Thursday they will “surround” Parliament

The civic movement against the government continues today, as the 52nd consecutive protest will be held in Tirana. As in previous days, organizers have called for mass participation, while the main demand remains the resignation of Prime Minister Edi Rama and the removal of the government.

For more than 50 days, citizens have protested daily in the capital, opposing not only the investment project in Zvërnec but also a series of laws that, according to them, favor narrow interests and harm the public interest.

In the protests so far, calls against the government and the political class have not been lacking. Protesters have demanded the government’s resignation, the repeal of the law on strategic investors, the cancellation of the “Mountains Package”, as well as changes to the law on protected areas and the one on cultural heritage.

Yesterday morning, the protest also took place in front of the Parliament building, where protesters threw eggs at the vehicles of some MPs, as a sign of opposition to the majority.

The action was accompanied by heavy security measures and tensions, while the plenary session was interrupted several times.

Organizers have announced that mobilization will continue daily, stressing that there will be no withdrawal until their demands are met.

Meanwhile, on Thursday, the protest is expected to move again in the morning to the front of the Parliament building, where the final plenary session of this parliamentary session will take place.

The organizers aim to pressure MPs on the closing day of Parliament’s proceedings, after which the rally is expected to continue according to the civic movement’s agenda.
