Mihali sets condition for PDK and LDK votes: Agreement must also include the functioning of institutions

Dejona Mihali, coordinator of the committees in the Vetëvendosje Movement, has reacted after LVV lawmakers refused to vote for the PDK and LDK candidates for the posts of deputy speakers of the Assembly.

According to her, the support of 62 lawmakers cannot be sought for the candidates of these two parties while the PDK and LDK are showing no willingness to help overcome the institutional deadlock and elect the President.

Mihali questioned why the majority should vote for the PDK candidate for deputy speaker of the Assembly when the party has declared that it will not participate in the presidential election process, whether through talks, meetings or even being present in the chamber.

She applied the same approach to the LDK, stressing that its candidate for deputy speaker has openly spoken out against any agreement with the VETËVENDOSJE! Movement to resolve the institutional crisis and elect the President.

Dejona Mihali argued that positions in the Assembly Presidency cannot be treated as privileges obtained with the votes of the majority while responsibility for the functioning of institutions is set aside.

She stressed that it is unacceptable for a political entity to seek votes to secure a position in the Assembly Presidency and then, by staying away from the chamber, obstruct the election of the President and steer the country back toward elections.

The LVV coordinator of committees called for every agreement on the deputy speakers of the Assembly to be accompanied by a broader agreement on the functioning of institutions.

According to Mihali, the PDK and LDK must accept an agreement covering institutions as a whole if they are seeking an agreement and votes for their candidates.

She concluded that there can be no agreement only on the parties’ positions while the institutions of the Republic, including the President, are blocked and citizens face repeated elections.
