Mickoski: Significant drop in gasoline and diesel prices expected from next week

The Prime Minister of North Macedonia, Hristijan Mickoski, announced that his country continues to maintain the lowest fuel prices in the region, despite the increase recorded over the past two weeks. He stressed that the executive is monitoring movements in international markets and expects a more noticeable price drop to materialize starting next week, leaving open the possibility for new measures if the situation dictates.

During a statement to the media, Mickoski explained the excise tax review process. “Excise taxes are analyzed every two weeks. The second half of the month is coming to an end, and on Monday we will calculate the average for that segment. Based on this, the new fuel prices will be shaped. The fact that for two consecutive days the price has fallen is encouraging. Today it has stabilized at around 85-86 dollars per barrel, so I expect a more significant drop in diesel and gasoline prices starting from next week.”

He added that the Government is closely following the dynamics on world stock exchanges and did not rule out the possibility of additional interventions, a decision that will be made after the analyses are completed at the end of July.

Recalling the specifics of this product, Mickoski highlighted that it is traded on the stock exchange and all countries are supplied from the same market. However, according to him, North Macedonia enjoys “by far the lowest price of diesel and unleaded gasoline in the region, even among the lowest in Europe.” Regarding future measures, he confirmed that they are waiting for the period ending July 31 to conclude. “We have intervened once through excise taxes and, after the analyses required by law are completed, we will decide on the next steps,” Mickoski concluded.
