Mickoski: North Macedonia has the lowest fuel prices in the region, further reduction expected

According to the Prime Minister of North Macedonia, Hristijan Mickoski, the executive continues to be engaged in implementing policies that mitigate the impact of fuel costs and raise the quality of life of the population.

Referring to the recent military tensions in the Persian Gulf, where the United States and Iran are confronting each other, as well as the occasional blockade of the Strait of Hormuz, Mickoski assessed that these developments could have consequences on global energy markets and on the value of fuels.

The head of government announced that the administration has taken these dynamics into account and, as part of the anti-crisis package, there is a possibility that starting next week a reduction in excise duties for unleaded gasoline and diesel will be applied again.

“The state of crisis lasts until July 20. I estimate that the premises have already been created so that on Monday we will again have a reduction in excise duties for unleaded gasoline and diesel,” said Mickoski.

He clarified that first the market cycle must close and the price assessment for the first half of the fifteen-day interval must be completed.

Mickoski stressed that the government measures so far have made it possible for North Macedonia to record, according to him, more favorable fuel prices compared to some neighboring countries.

“The cost of fuels is dictated by the world exchanges. We too are supplied from the same market as Germany. We do not have domestic oil reserves to supply our vehicles,” the prime minister declared.

Finally, he made a comparison of the prices of derivatives in North Macedonia with those in the surrounding countries, emphasizing that in some of them the values are significantly higher.
