Mekuli reacts harshly to Rama over Dritan Goxhaj: By what right do you call him “a man of Iran”?

Journalist Gëzim Mekuli has issued a strong reaction following statements about former Albanian Army officer and former KLA fighter Dritan Goxhaj, directing sharp criticism at Albanian Prime Minister Edi Rama.

According to Mekuli, describing Goxhaj as “a man of Iran” represents a moral slide and, at the same time, undermines national values. He linked this to the labels that, according to him, were previously attached to Albanian activists and fighters.

He further said that time and history will reveal who acted in the nation’s interest and who served other agendas.

So, Edi Rama and his band dare to label Dritan Goxhaj, a former officer of the Albanian Army and a former fighter of the Kosovo Liberation Army (KLA), as “a man of Iran”?!

It is enough to think about how far moral degradation has gone: when the Albanian (non)prime minister, just to save his own a**, smears and labels a member of the Albanian Army and the KLA as a “spokesman of Iran,” then why should we be surprised when the same savage anti-KLA propaganda is used by old Serbia and the Serbian lobby of Aleksandar Vučić? When the attack on national values comes from within, from the Prime Minister himself, it does nothing but give legitimacy to the enemy’s propaganda from outside.

This filthy way of condemning and slandering Albanianness as a matter of policy is not something unfamiliar. In Kosovo too, in 1981 and 1997-1998, some politicians and officials called the boys and girls who protested for freedom, and who later unloaded bullets and gunpowder on the uniforms of Serbia’s occupying army and police, by the very same labels: “thugs,” “Enverists,” “agents of Serbia,” “spokesmen of Belgrade,” or “an extended arm of the Serbian UDB.”

But history proved the exact opposite and put the facts in their proper place: those boys and girls were neither agents of Serbia nor of Greece, but were the people themselves, the very spirit of Albanian resistance. Just as back then, history today too will bring down dRama’s slanders and show who works for the nation and who for foreign agendas.
