Magnitude 4.7 Earthquake Shakes Naples in the Evening, Residents Take to the Streets and Transport Is Suspended

Naples and the surrounding areas were hit by strong seismic tremors this evening.

According to preliminary data from the National Institute of Geophysics and Volcanology, the earthquake was recorded at 19:46 and had a magnitude of 4.7.

The impact of the quake was felt in several neighborhoods across the city, prompting many residents to leave their homes and take to the streets shortly before 20:00.

No injuries or damage to buildings have been reported so far. However, authorities have begun inspections to assess the condition of structures.

The tremors also caused power outages in several parts of Naples, mainly in the city center, the Chiaia neighborhood and the western area.

Meanwhile, rail services on the Cumana and Circumflegrea lines were temporarily suspended for safety checks. The announcement was made by EAV, the Campania Region’s public transport company that operates the railway lines in the Phlegraean Fields area.

The tremors occurred on an evening when an unofficial fan celebration was also taking place in the city to mark Napoli’s 100th anniversary. Organizers said more than 10,000 people took part in the fan procession.

Although the earthquake caused panic among residents, there have been no reports of serious consequences so far.
