LVV responds to PDK initiative to amend Special Court law

The Vetëvendosje Movement has responded to the PDK’s initiative concerning the draft law on the Special Court in the Assembly, calling for the matter to be addressed with heightened legal and institutional care.

LVV emphasizes that the Constitutional Court’s decision on the constitution of the Assembly should first be awaited, as the request submitted to the court has not yet been withdrawn. According to LVV, only after this decision can the legal consequences that may arise from it be assessed.

With regard to the proposal to amend and supplement the law, the Vetëvendosje Movement says it will analyze it in detail, examining its compliance with applicable legislation and the impact that such an intervention could have at this stage of the proceedings before the Specialist Chambers.

The party considers that the fact that proceedings against the four former KLA leaders are being conducted by different defense teams must also be taken into account. For this reason, every initiative should also be analyzed in relation to the interests and legal strategies of each case separately.

LVV believes that it is now necessary to establish a common institutional and state position, based on a comprehensive legal review.

According to LVV, any step should be taken only after the possible legal consequences have been carefully analyzed, particularly those related to the second-instance proceedings, namely the appeals process.

The aim, LVV concludes, should be for the actions of the institutions to be well-considered and coordinated and not to cause unintended consequences for the judicial proceedings that are still ongoing.
