Lutfi Haziri reacts after remains of LDK activists identified

LDK MP Lutfi Haziri has reacted after the remains of 23 people, recently exhumed in Mitrovica, were identified.

He announced that those identified include Idriz Rrecaj, the LDK chairman and leader in Skenderaj and Drenica; Adem Beqiri, a member of the Presidency of the LDK branch in Mitrovica; and their fellow activist, Sali Mziu.

According to Haziri, they were patriots and activists who made a major contribution to Kosovo’s freedom and independence.

In his statement, Haziri wrote that, at a time when Kosovo has risen to testify that “Freedom Has a Name,” news arrived that light had been shed on one of the crimes committed against the group of intellectuals and people who led the resistance in Skenderaj, Drenica and Mitrovica.

He stressed that, after more than 27 years listed as missing, the remains of Idriz Rrecaj and Adem Beqiri were among those of the 23 people recently exhumed in Mitrovica that have now been identified. Haziri described them as prominent activists for the national cause who led the resistance and uprising for freedom in Skenderaj and Mitrovica. The remains of their fellow activist, Sali Mziu, were also identified.

Haziri said they were idealists, patriots and major contributors to freedom and independence who, through their example, showed how the homeland should be loved.

He described this as a long, 27-year journey filled with longing and waiting, saying that their heroism and the cruelty inflicted upon them have now been brought to light. According to him, their souls illuminate the Republic for which they sacrificed themselves.
