Lithuania Raises Alarm Over Possible Russian “False Flag” Provocation Against NATO

Lithuanian authorities are examining the possibility of a Russian provocation in the Baltic region that could be presented as an attack carried out by Ukraine against NATO member states.

Lithuanian Defense Minister Robertas Kaunas said the country is closely monitoring Russia’s activities and plans while coordinating information with Poland and other NATO allies.

“We are assessing and monitoring the threat level,” Kaunas said, clarifying that there is currently no set date or concrete information about any possible attack.

According to Lithuanian media, one of the scenarios being analyzed involves the use of Ukrainian-made drones, which could be seized or modified to strike critical infrastructure, with Ukraine then being blamed.

The Lithuanian minister said such an operation could be aimed at testing NATO’s response and its resolve to support Ukraine.

Despite these concerns, Kaunas stressed that the possibility of a direct, conventional military attack on Lithuania remains low.

The warning comes at a time when the Baltic states and Poland have for several months expressed concerns about a possible rise in tensions with Russia. In recent months, Lithuania has also reported several drone-related alerts.
