Kurti meets with World Bank President Ajay Banga

During his visit to New York, where he is attending the United Nations General Assembly, Kosovo’s Prime Minister Albin Kurti met with World Bank President Ajay Banga.

According to a statement published by Kurti on Facebook, the discussion focused on Kosovo’s economic development and the progress achieved in recent years. The meeting also addressed Kosovo’s removal from the list of fragile and conflict-affected states, as well as its transition from a recipient to a donor of the International Development Association.

Kurti said that Kosovo’s economy has continued to grow and that, during the next government’s term, the priority would be to create higher-quality, better-paid jobs.

He also stressed the aim of increasing the participation of young people and women in the labor market. In this context, Kurti also highlighted the importance of directing remittances and savings from the diaspora toward productive sectors of the economy.

During the meeting, the prime minister said that unemployment had fallen from 26% to 10%, while emphasizing that the focus of the next term would be to improve the quality of employment and increase wages.

World Bank President Ajay Banga presented a plan to support member states in creating higher-quality jobs. According to him, this support would include areas such as construction, productive agriculture, healthcare, tourism and manufacturing.
