Kurti and Abdixhiku Continue Meeting as They Await a Solution to the Presidential Election

Acting Prime Minister Albin Kurti and LDK leader Lumir Abdixhiku have been holding talks for around two hours on the election of Kosovo’s president.

Their meeting began at around 4:00 p.m. this afternoon at the Kosovo Assembly.

Kurti and Abdixhiku have returned to the negotiating table following developments within the LDK. Although the two leaders had reached an agreement on Bekim Sejdiu’s candidacy for president of Kosovo, six LDK lawmakers have announced that they will not support the deal.

A day earlier, following a meeting of the LDK Parliamentary Group, Abdixhiku said at a press conference that six lawmakers from his party had taken a position against the agreement with VV.

At that meeting, the LDK leader had discussed with the party’s lawmakers their position on Sejdiu’s candidacy.

After the meeting, Abdixhiku said that the refusal of six LDK lawmakers to vote for Bekim Sejdiu as president would inevitably send the country to elections.

It remains unclear whether the new talks between Kurti and Abdixhiku will produce a solution to the situation that has arisen, or whether Kosovo will face new elections.
