Kurti-Abdixhiku meeting ends, parties leave open the possibility of another meeting on the president

The meeting between Albin Kurti, leader of the Vetëvendosje Movement, and Lumir Abdixhiku, leader of the Democratic League of Kosovo, ended on 02.09.2026 after around two hours of discussions.

The talks, held at the premises of the Assembly of Kosovo and beginning at 16:00, focused on overcoming the political deadlock and finding a solution for the election of Kosovo’s president.

After the meeting, Albin Kurti did not make a statement to the media. Lumir Abdixhiku, meanwhile, said that there could be another meeting between them.

“We will try to meet again,” Abdixhiku briefly stated.

The meeting was held after developments within the LDK, where six lawmakers from the party announced that they would not support the agreement with VV or the candidacy of Bekim Sejdiu for president.

The disagreements were made public by Abdixhiku a day earlier, after his meeting with the LDK Parliamentary Group. According to him, the refusal of the six lawmakers to support Sejdiu inevitably pushes the country toward elections.

Kurti and Abdixhiku’s return to the negotiating table is directly linked to this complicated political situation. It remains to be seen whether a future meeting will produce a solution or whether Kosovo will head toward new elections.
