Kurti After Meeting With Abdixhiku: No Political Agreement Yet, but Willingness to Cooperate

Following a meeting that lasted around three hours with Democratic League of Kosovo leader Lumir Abdixhiku, acting Prime Minister Albin Kurti announced that the parties had not yet reached a political agreement. The meeting was held on Tuesday evening.

Kurti said that any potential agreement would have been the main news to emerge from the meeting. He explained that various alternatives and forms of cooperation were discussed during the talks, but no political agreement was reached.

According to him, an agreement that takes into account the will expressed in the elections is needed. Kurti stressed that the election result should not be overridden, but should be translated into a contribution that guarantees institutional stability.

The acting prime minister emphasized that new elections are not desirable for either party. However, he warned that the country could end up holding another election if no agreement is reached and no progress is made.

He once again confirmed that the Vetëvendosje Movement is interested in and willing to cooperate with the LDK, emphasizing the need for the country to move forward at a faster pace.

Referring to the office of president, Kurti reiterated that the position should not be included in political horse-trading. According to him, the head of state should embody the representation and unity of the Republic.

Kurti said it remains to be seen what the next round of communication between the parties will bring, while stressing that the specific candidate for president should be a consensus and inclusive choice.
