Kosovo Police’s 63rd class graduates; Haxhiu calls on cadets to protect citizens

06.11.2026 – 17:25 — At the graduation ceremony for the Kosovo Police’s 63rd class, Assembly Speaker Albulena Haxhiu congratulated the cadets and urged them to carry out their duties with professionalism, integrity and respect for the law. She said the graduates were taking on an important responsibility to the Republic of Kosovo: protecting citizens’ safety, lives and rights.

Haxhiu recalled that the Kosovo Police was founded in 1999, immediately after the war, as the country was building its institutions. She said it had grown from a newly established service into a professional institution with increasing responsibilities for public order, security and, later, the protection of sovereignty.

By mentioning Enver Zymberi and Afrim Bunjaku, she honored police officers who had lost their lives in the line of duty. Haxhiu said courage is shown not only in the face of danger: it also requires fair decisions, responsible use of authority and equal enforcement of the law.

There are 118 girls and women in this class, whom Haxhiu congratulated in particular for choosing to serve their country. She described the growing presence of women in security institutions as an important development, but noted that many other women continue to face violence, including in their own homes. For that reason, she urged police to take reports seriously and put protective measures in place promptly.

According to Haxhiu, tackling cybercrime, organized crime and human trafficking requires a strong, professional police force equipped with modern technology. She said strengthening security institutions, improving working conditions and ensuring democratic oversight would remain institutional responsibilities. In closing, she urged the cadets to wear their uniforms with dignity and earn citizens’ trust through their daily work.

06.11.2026 – 17:26 — Speaking at the ceremony, Prime Minister Albin Kurti announced that a total of 397 cadets were graduating: 118 women and 279 men. He urged the new officers to make integrity, professionalism and responsibility enduring priorities in their service.

Kurti said representing the Kosovo Police was among the greatest responsibilities entrusted to the cadets. He referred to the tests and challenges they had faced during training, which had strengthened their virtues, ideals and discipline and taught them how to approach situations and manage their duties. The prime minister urged them not to forget the lessons and guidance that would stay with them throughout their service.

Promising the government’s continued support, Kurti said backing for the Kosovo Police, including its allocated budget, had been much greater than in previous periods. According to him, the institution’s budget has risen by more than 50 percent over the past five years, while 20 police stations, facilities and bases have been built or reinforced in the north of the country.

He added that public order police now have long guns, which they previously lacked, as well as new vehicles and armored vehicles, on which nearly 8 million euros has been spent. Kurti also said security in the north and police efforts had enabled the discovery of three mass graves from the last war in the villages of Kalludër e Vogël and Jabukë in Zubin Potok. Despite these achievements, he urged officers not to become complacent.
