Kosovo Albanians Head to Albania’s Beaches, More Than 50,000 Entries at Morinë in First Two Days of August

A large number of people are crossing the Kosovo-Albania border at the start of this week, with the Albanian coast remaining the main destination. After spending several days in their homeland, many emigrants from Kosovo have resumed their journeys to Albania’s tourist areas. The travelers also include Kosovo residents who have planned their August holidays on the Albanian coast.

The influx of vehicles and travelers has been handled at the Morinë Border Crossing, where all booths have been opened. Authorities are using expedited procedures, mainly for vehicles with foreign license plates, most of which belong to emigrants from Kosovo. Meanwhile, vehicles with Kosovo and Albanian license plates are crossing without border checks under an agreement between the two countries to facilitate travel.

Although the number of vehicles is considerable, no problems have arisen at the border crossing. Travelers are waiting no more than five minutes, and traffic is flowing normally thanks to the authorities’ management.

The increase in traffic was expected, as August coincides with the busiest period of the tourist season. During this month, hundreds of emigrants from Kosovo living in various European countries spend their holidays in Kosovo and Albania. In the first two days of August alone, which fell on a weekend, more than 50,000 holidaymakers from Kosovo entered Albania, including members of the diaspora.

Authorities expect the high volume of traffic to continue in the coming days. The influx is expected to increase particularly during weekends in August, in both directions across the border.
