Increased patient flow at Tetovo Pediatrics: 139 children treated within 48 hours

High temperatures in recent days have brought a large number of young patients to the Pediatrics Department of Tetovo Clinical Hospital.

According to department data, a total of 139 children were seen over the past 48 hours. Of these, 12 were kept in the hospital for admission, while the rest were discharged for treatment at home.

“At Tetovo Clinical Hospital, specifically in the Pediatrics Department, we have had 139 cases in the past 48 hours. Of these, 12 children were hospitalized, while the others were discharged with home treatment,” the Pediatrics Department in Tetovo said.

High fever, vomiting and diarrhea are the main complaints that brought the children to the doctor. Pediatric specialist Dr. Isa Osmani says these are primarily seasonal summer viruses, influenced by environmental conditions and hygiene.

“In this age group, in most cases we are dealing with seasonal viruses. High temperatures, the way food is prepared, the use of formula, which requires very high standards of hygiene during preparation, as well as contact between sick and healthy children, are factors that have an impact. These viruses are contagious and are accompanied by certain symptoms. However, not every case of diarrhea or vomiting requires an immediate trip to the hospital. Mothers should have electrolytes available and use different feeding methods in order to prevent dehydration. But our mothers often worry that the child may become dehydrated,” pediatrician Isa Osmani said.

Doctors are appealing to parents to pay attention to hygiene when preparing food, ensure sufficient hydration and limit children’s contact with infected people in order to prevent the further spread of the viruses. /tv21
