After 27 years of waiting, Idriz Rrecaj, Hero of Kosovo, was reburied today at the Memorial Complex in Marinë, Skenderaj. He was abducted and forcibly disappeared on April 19, 1999.

Rrecaj’s remains were found in a mass grave in the north of the country and were later identified through DNA analysis.
Hundreds of citizens attended the burial ceremony. Among them were former President of Kosovo Vjosa Osmani, Skenderaj Mayor Sami Lushtaku, and members of the Assembly of Kosovo.
Born on November 10, 1944, in Llaushë, Idriz Rrecaj was a teacher, an agricultural engineer and an activist for the national cause. He helped organize the resistance, Albanian-language education, reconciliation and solidarity, and provided strong support for the liberation war.
In 2019, for his contribution to the national cause and his dedication to Kosovo’s freedom, he was awarded the “Hero of Kosovo” order.
