DNA testing in The Hague identifies Idriz Rrecaj after 27 years, remains found in mass graves in Zubin Potok

After 27 years, DNA tests have confirmed that Idriz Rrecaj from Llausha, Skenderaj, is one of three people identified among the human remains discovered in mass graves in Kalludër and Jabukë, Zubin Potok, in the north of the country.

His son, Shpëtim Rraci, announced the official notification from the institutions in a Facebook post.

He wrote that, after 27 years filled with waiting, pain and uncertainty, the family had been informed by the institutions that the DNA laboratory in The Hague had officially confirmed the identity of his father, Idriz Rrecaj.

Shpëtim Rraci expressed deep gratitude to all state institutions and every person who, over the years, worked to shed light on the fate of Idriz Rrecaj and the missing persons.

Idriz Rrecaj was one of 23 men who disappeared in April 1999.

After 27 years of waiting, pain and uncertainty, our institutions informed us that the DNA laboratory in The Hague has officially confirmed the identification of my father, Idriz Rrecaj.

The question of where Idriz Rrecaj is has now been answered. After 27 years, we finally have the answer we have waited so long for.

I express my deep gratitude to all state institutions and every person who has worked over the years to uncover his fate and that of the missing persons.
