“I would ethnically cleanse Kosovo” – Nela reacts fiercely to Serbian minister’s shocking statement: here is what he demands

Publicist Milaim Nela has expressed deep outrage after the statement made by Snezhana Paunović, a member of the Serbian government cabinet, who during an interview said that she “would have carried out the ethnic cleansing of Kosovo in 1998.”

He labeled this outburst as intolerable and alarming, highlighting concern about the mindset that prevails among top officials in Belgrade regarding Kosovo and the history of the conflict.

Through a post on the social network Facebook, Nela calls on Albanian authorities, Kosovo authorities, and European Union mechanisms to come out with an official stance on such rhetoric, emphasizing that it undermines efforts for stability and harmonization in the Balkans, reports “Bota sot”.

He begins his writing with a firm assertion: with Serbs, peace remains an illusion. Snezhana Paunović, he underlines, is not an ordinary citizen but holds the post of minister in Serbia’s current executive.

The publicist points out that she did not utter these words during the bombing of Serbian strategic targets in what remained of former Yugoslavia in ’98, but in a completely calm television setting, in July 2026.

He also recalls that Paunović has been a militant and representative of Slobodan Milošević’s party at least since 1992. Her statement, Nela stresses, comes with a disturbing coolness precisely in 2026, when Serbia, at least formally, is in the final stage of the path to European Union membership.

In his further reaction, he poses a series of rhetorical questions. First, when will the Albanian government and its diplomacy take a public stance on this statement with a spirit of genocide? Or will this also be handled with the same “understanding” that, according to Nela, has characterized the prime minister of Albania?

Furthermore, he interrogates the Democratic Party of Albania and its foreign relations section, asking when it will respond to this exterminatory rhetoric. Finally, he challenges the institutions in Brussels and the European Parliament, presenting them with the dilemma of whether they will remain silent once again and continue to demand the Association from Kosovo.
