Nela: Serbian Minister’s Statement Calls for a Firm Response and Faster Kosovo Membership in NATO

The recent remarks by Snezhana Paunović, a minister in the Serbian Government, have sparked strong reactions in Kosovo and the region. After she stated that she “would have ethnically cleansed Kosovo in 1998,” publicist Milaim Nela said this cannot be considered merely a media statement, but should be seen as a message carrying political weight.

According to Nela, such positions articulated by senior Serbian representatives must be taken seriously. He believes they should serve Kosovo in strengthening its international position, including by accelerating the process of joining NATO, which he sees as a guarantee of the country’s sovereignty and territorial integrity.

He stressed that Croatia is the first NATO member state to have expressed and supported this position. Nela called on Kosovo to pursue this goal more vigorously, adding that Albania should also have sought and lobbied for this process, “Bota sot” reports.

The publicist also criticised the approach of Albanian institutions towards Serbia, arguing that statements of this nature should not be left without a response.

The Serbian minister’s statement on Kosovo, ethnic cleansing and, in particular, the intention to reoccupy it as soon as KFOR leaves, which in practice represents the official position of the Government of Serbia, should serve as an argument for Kosovo’s accelerated membership in NATO, as a guarantee of its sovereignty and territorial integrity!

Croatia is the first NATO state to have articulated and supported this!

Kosovo must strongly pursue and demand this!

Albania should also have sought and lobbied for this, but according to Nela, this cannot be done without removing Edi Rama from power, whom he calls a vassal of Serbia, as well as Miladin and Dushan’s party!

Paunović’s position should not be treated as an ordinary media statement, because it is not!
